Paulie has been adopted!
Day one – July 2017
This is Paulie and she became a member of our family today. She was pulled from the “Urgent Dogs List…to be euthanized at 9:30 a.m. list” I emailed the shelter at 9:19. There is much that we do not know about this poor girl, and most we will never find out. What we do know is that she is a purebred English Bull Terrier, three years old and in bad shape. She is thin, balding from possible mange or perhaps allergies. She has a left ear that is filled with blood from shaking her head, most likely due to ear infections.
Paulie went to surgery on Monday, July 24 to be spayed and have her ear drained and repaired. While under she will had a deep ear cleaning and medication. She will also had a skin scraping to determine what is the cause of her hair loss and open sores. We will do all we can to bring this girl back to health and life.
8.18.17 Update
She had surgery on her left ear due to a severe hematoma that had gone untreated. The ear is as resolved as it is going to be, however due to a severe amount of scar tissue it will flop over forever. We do not feel that a subsequent intervention would be in her best interest. So, she has character.
Paulie is a very sweet girl. She is affectionate and does not seem to understand fully that she is safe. We suspect that she was used as a breeder and had little human contact. Although Paulie is now 100% health wise, we feel that her road back will be over a period of months for her to learn to trust people again. She loves to spend time with our volunteers and especially loves walks and scratches. As such she is cleared for adoption.
We think that she would do great in an adult home or with older children. We think that due to her breeding history she would do best as an only dog. She is loving and sweet and given some time to relax, she will be a love bug for sure. She was great in the car. Really seemed to enjoy rides. She was very good at the vet.
Paulie is a sweet girl wanting to show the world how great she can be. Our volunteers love walking and spending time with her. She soaks up the attention and wants to please. When she’s content, she purrs. Paulie is a darling.
