ENGLISH BULLDOGS

There is much more to owning and caring for English Bulldogs than the average dog. If you have done your research and are emotionally and financially prepared to move forward, the rewards can be great. We have dogs come into our care regularly and will do our best to match you with your forever friend. Vermont Bulldog Rescue is a volunteer based non-profit organization. We make every effort to process applications in a timely manner. However life steps in and there are sometimes delays. Please be patient.

** PLEASE NOTE: If you are in Canada, you may submit an application as we have adopted several deserving dogs to Canada.

On the application, type ‘VT’ in the ‘State’ field and ‘05495’ in the ‘Zip Code’ field.

  • Adoption fees are determined on a dog by dog basis depending on medical and transportation needs.
  • Adoption fees include transport and boarding costs, spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, microchip/with lifetime registration, heartworm preventative, and a voucher for discounts and free items, including food, at Pet Food Warehouse.
  • All rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all shots, heartworm negative and medically cleared prior to adoption.
  • We rarely get puppies. When we do, they may be surrendered due to significant medical conditions that require an experienced home and financial commitment to manage.

Submission of an application does not guarantee placement. If you are considering giving a rescue dog a second chance, you must be certain that you have the time and patience to work through behavioral challenges, adjustment periods and health concerns. VEBR always discloses pertinent information, as it is our goal to make the transition to a new home smooth and the placement a happy, healthy and permanent one.

More often than we would like, rescue Bulldogs are not social with other animals. Many come to us as they are unable to live with children. If you have children or other pets it may take longer to find the right match. Again, we ask that you please be patient. It is in everyone’s best interest to wait for that right dog.

If you are looking to obtain a cheap English bulldog or you are wanting a specific color, sex, or type of bulldog, rescue is probably not the best route for you. Our primary commitment is to the dogs that are entrusted to us and their future. We work hard to find the right match for the right family. There is no point on our compass for cutest, youngest, or anything other than fit. That puppy or dog with the most skin folds or biggest nose rope may not be the best choice based on important criteria.

Please research this breed prior to applying. English Bulldogs are extremely high maintenance dogs, requiring not only time, and dedication to daily cleaning and grooming, but cost of food, products and veterinary expenses. Your vet will be on speed dial and they will see you more than you see your friends…even with the most dedicated care. English Bulldogs are stoic when it comes to pain.  It takes an astute owner to see problems before they become life-threatening.

We recommend pet insurance the moment your dog is home. The $60.00 per month or so that you spend will be a drop in the bucket when you have your first crisis.

Incomplete applications (missing references, phone numbers, etc.) will not be processed.

If you would like to be considered as an adopter, please fill out our Adoption Request Form. This is the first step in adoption.
