Gus
1.27.18 update. Gus has been adopted.
Gus is a purebred English bulldog male, eight years old and has lived with the same family since he was a pup. Gus is a pretty typical bulldog in that he has severe allergies which have not be controlled properly yet. This was not for lack of his family trying to seek treatment or spending money on it. Often owners run into a problem with a vet who is inexperienced with the breed. As such they go at the allergy issues from a testing and medicating point of view rather than a food point of view.
We are not pretending to have the magic bullet yet but we are on track. Gus will need to be on a limited ingredient, non-grain and non-poultry diet most likely with rotating proteins. He will need an antihistamine for life as well as weekly Malaseb (medicated) baths. Gus is sweet and social, stubborn and used to getting his way. He has lived with kids and done well.
We feel that he will do best in a home with an experienced English bulldog owner who is not daunted by the daily maintenance. Gus is house trained and crate trained and just a sweet boy. Gus was an only dog and as such never socialized properly with other dogs. We have not seen him to be reactive but that is yet to be determined. Gus lived gently and peacefully with a cat.
